UPSC IFS Mains Exam Previous Year Papers

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) once every year conducts exam for Indian Forest Services (IFS). Candidates selected through IFS exam are appointed as IFS officer of either State cadre or Joint cadre i.e. State and Centre. The main responsibility of an IFS officer is to implement plans and programmes under The National Forest Policy. An IFS officer work as an administrative head of the forest region they are posted. It is a respectful position and candidates have to face tough competition for clearing the exam.

UPSC IFS Exam Selection Process

Candidates have to undergo 3 stages to become an IFS officer. They are:

  1. IFS Preliminary Exam
  2. IFS Mains Exam
  3. Interview or Personality Test

  • Paper I in prelims stage is a qualifying paper for IFS Mains exam
  • Candidate have to at least score 33% in Paper II of IFS Prelims exam to become eligible for mains exam

UPSC IFS Mains Exam Syllabus

The UPSC ISFC Syllabus for Mains was revised in 2015. The Civil Services Mains examination is designed to test the academic talent of the aspirant, also his/her ability to present his/ her knowledge in a clear and coherent manner.

The written examination will consist of the following papers:

General English Syllabus:

  1. Write an essay in the English language
  2. Questions that test understanding of workmanlike words will be there
  3. Passages will be there for summarising

General Knowledge Syllabus:

  1. General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.
  2. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of nature which the candidate should be able to answer without special study.

There are 6 optional subjects in UPSC IFS Mains exam. The candidate has to select from the given options. Options are:

  2. Agricultural Engineering
  3. Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
  4. Botany
